What Happens in a Taxila Session

This is a draft post for the Taxila Journal.

Walk into a Taxila session and you might mistake it for a creative studio or a casual hangout. That's intentional. Learning happens best when it doesn't feel like school.

Inspire: Every Session Starts with a Story

We gather around. An instructor shares something unexpected — a documentary clip, a historical artefact, a question from a real-world guest who uses AI in their work.

No textbooks. No slides. Just a spark.

The story isn't random. It connects to what we'll make that day. But we don't spell that out. We let curiosity do the work.

Make: Hands-On with AI Tools

Then it's time to create. Small groups, each with their own project. The tools vary by pathway:

STEM & Making

  • 3D modelling with AI-assisted design
  • Programming robots with natural language
  • Exploring biology with AI microscopy

Creative Studio

  • Generating art and iterating on it
  • Composing music with AI collaborators
  • Animating stories frame by frame

World & Impact

  • Mapping historical events with AI research
  • Analysing sports data
  • Building solutions for family businesses

The key: everyone makes something. Nothing theoretical.

Support: Guidance, Not Pressure

Instructors float between groups. They ask questions more than they give answers. When someone's stuck, they help unstick — but they don't take over.

There's no grade. No test at the end. The only measure is: did you make something you're proud of?

Show: Sharing What You Made

Sessions end with a quick showcase. Not formal presentations — just showing what you made, explaining one thing you learned, asking a question you're still wondering about.

At the end of each stage, there's a bigger showcase for friends and family. A chance to present real portfolios, earn certificates, and celebrate the journey.

The Space Matters

We meet in library makerspaces — calm, well-lit, accessible. Think of a quiet cafe where you can concentrate, not a noisy classroom. The environment is part of the learning.

After the Session

Participants leave with their project (digital or physical), resources to explore more, and the seed of an idea for next time. No homework. Just curiosity that keeps growing.
